The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series kicks off in New York on May 7th and 8th, 2016. In the overall results Emirates Team New Zealand sits atop the leaderboard. Jimmy Spithill and ORACLE TEAM USA are just six points back in second place. ORACLE TEAM USA has had four consecutive podium finishes in Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series regattas. “We’ve made some good steps forward, but we need to get going,” Spithill said. “It’s good to be on the podium. We’re one of only two teams to have been on the podium at each event. But we want to win. There’s no two ways about it.” The leader at the conclusion of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series will carry two bonus points forward into the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers in May 2017 in Bermuda. The second place team earns one bonus point. Both SoftBank Team Japan and Artemis Racing continued to show moments of promise and are fourth and fifth respectively, while Groupama Team France is in sixth. The Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series uses a high-point scoring system. The winner of each race scores 10 points, second place earns 9 points, third place collects 8 points, and so on, point scoring on Sunday is doubled.
