Buyer beware this shoes are defective by design. I've worn Sperry boatshoes all my life (25+ years), probably have gone through over 15 pairs and love the Gold Cup for their premium materials and comfort. I had the last pair of these shoes for over 3 years and loved them, used them until their was no more tread on the bottom. I got these to replace my old pair and can't believe they would design a shoe that has a metal piece that sticks out of the bottom of the sole. This has to be the most poorly designed shoe ever made. Like a tap shoe, except it also scratches wood flooring and your boat deck. I called and they said no one else has complained about this and I told them to look at the reviews on the website. This shoe needs to be redesigned asap with the metal piece removed. Sperry is only going to lose money as I can't imagine anyone is happy with these shoes and customers. Very disappointed in Sperry and am looking at competitors for a replacement.

This shoe is sooooo comfortable I’m a long time fan of Sperry, and especially the Gold Cup line. I bought the “Ultra” to wear while boating, but can’t seem to take them off. I wear them when I’m off the boat even more than when I’m on the boat. Definitely the most comfortable shoe (and good looking in my opinion), that I own.

Comfortable fit I decided to overlook the negative reviews and give these shoes a go. I've worn them over the last two weeks and they are very comfortable and lightweight. I usually only wear the Billfish style...in contrast to them they do have a more padded insole and are lighter weight. I also wear an 11 1/2 in both styles. I've found that some of the other Sperry styles run 1/2 a size small. For example, in the Billfish ultra lite and the regular Gold cups I take a size 12. When you walk-on hard surfaces like concrete you do get a noticeable clicking sound. However, I can see the metal tabs are now scratched up and I believe they will wear down over time. Like the other reviews ...if they don't I will simply pull them out. My only other concern is how they will hold up over time since they ARE lighter weight. One other pet peeve of mine is that I do not like the rawhide laces. I have to double knot the laces to keep the shoes tied. I much prefer the corded laces that Sperry uses on the Billfish. I wish Spery gave you an option to choose which stlye of laces you prefer or just include both shoelace styles especially at the price of these shoes. All in all, especially at this sale price I would highly recommend this shoe.

Great shoe as expected. Despite the negative ratings about this shoe I bought them for my son anyway. I was prepared to pull off the "clicking" metal tab on the sole and fill with epoxy if necessary. The shoes are his most comfortable pair of Sperrys. They are true to size and make no clicking sounds. He's been wearing them to school for over a month and they look fantastic and are breaking in very well. Very satisfied with this purchase.

The metal logo on the sole, what were you thinking? The gold cup logo on the sole is not recessed and actually protrudes. This is a boat shoe for heavens sake. Who is responsible for this fiasco. Do I have to return them or can I take a pair of pliers to them and remove the logo?
