Don't like wrinkled leather texture - by , Mar 14, 2011

Was looking for a classic navy blue boat shoe, but didn't realize from online photo just how wrinkled this leather show is in real life. I much prefer other brands that have done navy boat shoes with smooth leather, though avoid TOP MAN, they are cheaply made.

Poor Quality Leather - by , Mar 18, 2011

The leather bled through to my socks the first day I put them on my feet. They smelled and were greasy. I have been wearing this brand of top sides for over 20 years, and this is the first time I have ever had an issue with them.

Worst pair of Top-Siders I've ever had on my feet. - by , May 24, 2011

The tanning solution or dye used in the manufacture of the shoes stained a pair of socks I put on before putting on the shoes for a couple of hours as I walked around the house to get the feel of them. The staining is so severe that after laundering the socks the stains will not come out. I'm glad I had the socks on. I have never (8+ pairs of Top-Siders over 30 years of boating/sailing) experienced this. Someone needs to tighten-up on quality control or warn customers of this potential problem (I'd opt for the former). They are on their way back to you. You might note the staining on the shipping shoe trees that I should have noted before putting them on. I am very, very disappointed. REM

Not up yo the quality I expected. - by , Jul 15, 2011

I expected the usual no problem attitude I expect of Sperry shoes. The shoe just doesn't fit! I believe this shoe was mis-sized. I expected the quality I usually find when I purchase Sperry shoes from a shoe store! Unfortunately I must return them! I am somewhat apprehensive about requesting a replacement!

Sahara is now much LIGHTER than it was before! - by , Aug 24, 2011

Sperry, why did you change the color of Sahara. It was a beautiful medium brown, and now it is light brown/tan. Why was this change made? PLEASE CHANGE IT BACK - other people are telling me this too it's not just me

This is NOT a shoe for sailing - walking on deck like walking on ice - by , Aug 31, 2011

In my heart of hearts, I want to love this shoe, but it fails in its primary intended function--boating! I needed a new pair of sailing shoes--not fashion shoes--and thought I'd go retro circa '82. While the shoe's inner bedding is much improved/comfortable over the old circa 80's classic, the sole has been modified from a bright white with truly functioning deck grip to a 'yellowed' off white which appears intentionally designed to make the shoe look broken in. Whatever the sole is now made of, it has absolutely zero grip on a boat's gelcoat decking--literally, it is like walking on ice and is extremely unsafe when moving about from cockpit to bow--and that's on the mooring let alone under sail. This failure comes even after only having worn the shoes on the boat--I never even used them walking around on land. It's as if the rubber sole has hardened to a shiny/slick patina. My well worn, 5 year old flip flops have better traction. Further, the leather has not broken in with any nice crease marks. It's as if the leather is more pleather, than real. Interestingly, my shoe experience is contrary to the youth model, which I bought for my 10 year old at the same time I bought my adult model. His youth model has the vibrant white sole and the old classic 'Sperry' embossed in the eyelet rivets. His shoe with the classic white rubber sole provides sufficient grip on deck, and the leather has broken in with nice crease marks. If only I could get this shoe in adult size. Is the shoe a classic, yes. Is the shoe comfortable to wear, yes. Is the shoe to be used for it's long ago intended function, NO! With shorts or khakis on land, 5 star. On the water, sadly, look elsewhere.

Someone at Sperry is not paying attention... - by , Sep 21, 2011

I've been trying to buy a new pair of AO's, but someone at Sperry has decided that it's OK if the footbed ends in a hard, elevated ridge, cutting across the bottom of your foot from left-to-right. Well, it's not OK... it's noticeably uncomfortable. I always bought Sperry AO topsiders because they're comfortable, but there's nothing comfortable about that. Maybe they all aren't being made like that, but all of the ones I've tried-on lately are. I highly recommend checking this out in any pair you're interested in, before buying them.

Not what they used to be - by , Oct 11, 2011

My wife and I ordered shoes on line as an anniversary gift to each other. We own a large power boat and thought these shoes would be great on and off the boat. They shipped quickly, in time for us to enjoy them the next weekend on the boat. Unfortunately, my shoes were way too narrow to be comfortable. I tried stretching them out and wore them for about a week, however even if they do stretch to be comfortable enough to wear, the leather insert came unglued after just 2 wearings and the athletic shoe insert that was under the leather insert came unglued after another day or two. They look like the Top-Siders of old, but I believe that ship has sailed.

Shipped Two Wrong Sizes - by , Jan 17, 2012

Title says it all. I've been buying topsiders for 23 years. This time I ordered straight from the company, a size 11m. They ship one 11 1/2 and one 12. Wore them half a day, realized they didn't fit right, low and behold they shipped TWO incorrect sizes for the same shoe. Haven't sent them back yet, here's hoping their return department isn't as inept.
